Traction Alopecia is also know as Traumatic Alopecia, often caused by by various types of either physical or chemical injury to the scalp which may be acute or chronic.
Traction Alopecia results from tight ponytails, cornrowing, braiding, backcombing and prolonged pressure on the scalp in the new born or on ill, comatose or anaesthetised patients.
Chemical trauma results from excessive salt water bathing, frequent shampooing and overexposure to setting lotions, permanent wave lotions and hair dyes.
